About this Program

The TechEco Pathways project funded by Lux-Development, the Luxembourg Agency for Development Cooperation (LUXDEV) aims to contribute to sustainable economic growth in Kosovo by addressing critical skill gaps in the renewable energy and ICT sectors.

GreenTech Pathways (part of the TechEco Pathways) addresses the shortage of skilled professionals in Kosovo’s renewable energy and ICT sectors. This program offers hands-on training sessions for 75 young graduates, followed by paid internships for 35 selected participants. The training curriculum integrates renewable energy technologies, digital tools, and data management systems to equip participants with industry-specific skills. Additionally, partnerships with private companies ensure students gain practical experience and build valuable networks for future employment.

This training is carried out with the support of the "Skills for sustainable jobs in Kosovo”, a project funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, and LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The aim of this program is to provide youth with theoretical and practical knowledge on sustainaibility, circular economy and most importantly on Upcycling as a method that applies and strengthens good practices in both perspectives. The objectives of the training program in regards of the youth participants is to achieve:

• Understanding of the principles of circular economy and sustainable product design

• Learning how to transform different types of waste (plastic, textile, paper, etc.) into functional and added value products

• Gain hands-on skills using upcycling tools and basic machinery at DYVOLAB: CREATIVE COMMON SPACE & FABLAB

• Develop and present their own upcycled prototypes

• Build entrepreneurial thinking for eco-design markets and understand the leverage on building eco-conscious products.

Introduction to Upcycling & Circular Economy

Overview of environmental challenges, linear vs circular models, global and local context

Materials & Waste Streams

Identifying local waste sources (plastic, textile, paper, e-waste); safe handling and classification

Techniques & Tools for Upcycling

Introduction to hand tools and basic FabLabmachines (cutters, extruders, sanders, presses, etc.).

Plastic Upcycling

Plastic sorting, shredding, pressing; design and production of upcycled plastic. Introduction to successful case studies.

Textile Upcycling

Repurposing old garments, creating fashion or utility. Introduction to successful case studies

Creative Design Thinking

Product ideation, sketching, prototyping, sustainability principles

Entrepreneurship & Green Branding

Basics of green business models, storytelling, eco-labeling, local market insights

Prototyping Project I

Team-based prototyping sessions for selected product ideas with real materials

Prototyping Project I + Final Showcase

Product refinement, documentation, and final presentations of upcycled prototypes

METHODOLOGY

The training uses a learner-centered, project-based approach that combines theory with practice. By engaging participants in real hands-on upcycling processes, we foster creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork in a supportive environment. The methodology encourages direct experimentation with materials and tools while emphasizing sustainability and innovation. Key methodologies for the activities will revolve around:

• Experiential, hands-on learning

• Use of real waste streams (local plastic, textile, etc.)

• Group design challenges

EVALUATION

Participants’ progress will be assessed through practical tasks and reflective evaluations that measure their technical, creative, and conceptual development. Each phase of the training includes opportunities for feedback and self-assessment to ensure continuous improvement.

• Pre-Test: Knowledge of sustainability, waste, and design concepts

• Mid-Term Check-In: Concept pitch + peer feedback

• Post-Test: Prototype presentation + sustainability pitch

• Trainer Report: Progress report to ICK Project Manager

MATERIALS & TOOLS

The training will utilize accessible and safe tools to support prototyping and experimentation with different waste materials. Where needed, tools, machinery and resources from DYVOLAB FABLAB will be used to simulate real-world production processes. We will provide access to:

• Sample waste materials (plastic, fabric, paperboard)

• Hand tools (scissors, cutters, glue guns, etc.)

• Machines (3D printer, shredder, heat press, sewing machine, etc.)

• Safety equipment (gloves, goggles)

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

By the end of the training, participants will have the basis of confidence and skillset to creatively tackle environmental challenges through upcycling. They will leave with both conceptual knowledge and a tangible portfolio piece that demonstrates their capability in circular design.

Participants will:

• Gain practical skills in eco-design and upcycling

• Understand sustainable production principles

• Develop and present at least one functional prototype per team

• Be equipped for future opportunities in green entrepreneurship or design

Certification / Completion

Minimum criteria:

1. Course attendance – 80%.

2. Final Project/Exam - 20%
