Connecting young entrepreneurs with Startup Grind

The basement of the Innovation Centre Kosovo (ICK) is every month the place to be and hear from successful entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors from the region. The global community of Startup Grind, powered by Google Entrepreneurs, is active in 185 cities, and Pristina is one of them. So far, Startup Grind Pristina supported by ICK, hosted eight events.

The idea is just as simple as interesting. A well-known entrepreneur explains about his or her journey of becoming successful. In a setting, which looks a bit like a television show, and with an active audience, guests through a personalized interview share their story. Q & A are anything from business related up to a very personal one, such as the favorite color, as a process of knowing better not only the guest, but some of characteristics of an entrepreneur.
But the monthly event is more than only listening to inspiring examples. Uranik Begu, ICK director & Startup Grind host also explains: “The basis concept of Startup Grind is to inspire and connect founders, and to nurture a startup ecosystem. We believe that these events help people find mentorships, funding, and potential partners. We are glad to host this community gathering event at ICK.” Up to date, ICK has presented different personalities such as entrepreneurs, media, government representatives and experts.

The moment to connect with other entrepreneurs is before and after the interview. Visitors go upstairs to eat pizza and hang out. Shpend Lila, events manager at ICK, experiences the pizza moment as very valuable: “We don’t have the possibility to speak with this many entrepreneurs at the same, but at the Startup Grind event, we make it happen. We have them all together at the same moment, and people are exchanging business cards, ideas and plans, for example.”

Startup Grind is the largest independent worldwide community for startup. The monthly gatherings, like for example in Pristina, are the corner stone of the community. But it is much more than that. According to the international organization, Startup Grind connects over 200.000 business founders all over the world.
Presents Kosovo to the global community
Begu: “When we first reached out to Startup Grind founder Derek Andersen, we wanted to bring a top global Startup event to Kosovo, but at the same time present Kosovo to the global community. Pristina was one of the first hosts of the region, and we are glad that we are now part of a community of 70 countries and 185 cities. This is important for aspiring entrepreneurs from Kosovo.”

As part of the cooperation between Startup Grind and the Innovation Centre Kosovo, ICK director Uranik Begu will join the Startup Grind Global Conference, in Silicon Valley. “This is a great opportunity to network with some of the biggest names that are part of the global startup movement.”
Founded in Silicon Valley, Startup Grind has now hosted 2,000 fireside chats since its founding in 2010. To date, Startup Grind has helped millions of entrepreneurs find mentorship, connect to partners and hires, pursue funding, and reach new users.
